Vika Brown

Biography

Gold Coast — Vika Brown was born and raised in Ukraine. She began designing dresses for friends and relatives while in her teens. Her feedback was exceedingly positive, but there was little support for a budding designer in the area at that time.

Vika moved to the United States in 1998 and began experimenting with small hand-knit projects using novelty yarns. Her garments captured the attention of passerby in spite of her use of understated colors and patterns.

Encouraged by her early successes, Vika started her Eclectica (by Vika) label in 2002 with the help of her husband and best friend. She began hiring seamstresses to move beyond knits and delve into retail clothing. Her use of break-from-the-crowd designs with subtle elegance became a recurring theme in her work, and this remains the signature of the Vika label today.
