G'bani

Gold Coast — It is the culmination of experience with an emphasis on shoes both from a design and retail perspective that Bolaji ‘B.J.’ Kutti brought G’bani to birth. The name, a derivative of two principal names containing unparalleled meaning, is taken from his native land.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Kutti spent extensive periods of time in London, Milan, and Barcelona. Not impressed with the fashion opportunities, in 1988, he relocated to New York City. From there he was able to expand his industry experience from photo stylist, to buyer and then designer. This activity provided B.J. with significant insight into shoe production, promotion, distribution and sales. The knowledge of garments as well, allowed G’bani to create total concepts using shoes as the foundation. His ability to turn the face of G’bani to the fashion forefront is due to its tremendous contacts in the industry as well as its’ Chicago gold coast location. Chicago being the commercial hub of the United States, provides strong commercial characteristics – as well as physical proximity to both coasts and southern states.
